Things to do at Esk Valley Lodge and Environs
Esk Valley Lodge is
situated in 18 acres, 2 acres of beautiful gardens and the remainder
in vineyard.
At the lodge itself
guests can :
* Wander the quiet gardens, pick flowers or fruit for the table
* Play Petanque or croquet (if available) on the lawns
* Use the retro style bikes to explore nearby surroundings.
* Read a book or watch a DVD movie from the library.
* Relax by the log fire in winter.
* Explore the Vineyard and learn about winegrowing.

Vineyard walks.
There are three wineries within 5 km. You can use the retro
style bicycles to explore.
Fly fishing in the Esk River or surfcasting from Whirinaki Beach.
The
Esk River is open from October to April and has Brown and Rainbow
trout. See Jes or Eileen to borrow a rod. For a truly
mountain river experience there is the Mohaka river 30 mins up the
road towards Taupo.
Trellinoe Park
Gardens.
This is a renowned woodland garden 20 minutes up the valley towards
Taupo.
River Valley Café
5 Minutes up the Taupo road. Call in here for a coffee or meal.
Activities in Hawkes Bay.
Napier is renowned as one of the premier cities for Art Deco style
of architecture that was prominent at the time of the city’s
rebuilding after the earthquake of 1931. The Information Centre
offers a number of guided walks and maps
The local cafes and wineries offer an
opportunity to sample the best of local wines and ingredients.
Golfers are
particularly well catered for in Hawkes Bay with a wide range of
courses including the spectacular Cape Kidnappers golf course.
There
are a number of outstanding local antique shops.
The fishing in
Hawkes Bay is world renowned with 3 significant fly fishing rivers
and spectacular ocean fishing.
Hawkes Bay is
renowned for its wine and agricultural produce. No visit would be
complete without a visit to some of the wineries. The visitor
centre will have details.
On Saturdays and Sundays “Farmers Markets” in Napier and Hastings
showcase the finest of Hawkes Bay produce.
The Gannet colony at
Cape Kidnappers is one of the few mainland colonies in the world.
